New-York, January 12. The Theatre Royal in this city was
opened last Tuesday evening, with the Tragedy of Douglas,
which was performed to a very crouded audience with
universal applause. It was introduced with the following
occasional prologue.
Now that hoary Winter o'er the frozen plain,
Has pres'd the horrors of his dreary reign,
Has bade awhile the din of battle cease,
And mocks these regions with the mask of peace;
Once more the scenic muse exerts her power,
And claims her pension of the leisure hour
